Spring Band Trip
The band had a great time with music and fun in Corpus Christi and San Antonio. Pictures are now available in the Album


Winter Guard

The Winter Guard placed 2nd at the NTCA Championships on Saturday, March 31st with a score of 77.45.

The Winter Guard completed a great season by winning the silver medal in the NTCA Championships on March 31 at South Grand Prairie High School with their show "A Brand New Day". The guard, under the direction of Mr. James Thomas and captain Naomi Thurlow, also won first place trophies at the Everman Invitational on January 20th and at Richland High School on March 17th. They placed second at the R. L. Turner High School competition on March 24th.

The winter guard placed 2nd at the R.L.Turner competition March 24th, with a score of 75.3, only 3/10ths of a point behind first place!

L.D. Bell 2001 Jazz Showcase
February 1st, 2001.
The L. D. Bell Jazz Band was in concert at L. D. Bell High School on February 1st in the L.D. Bell H.S. auditorium. The concert, which was free and open to the public, also featured the University of Texas at Arlington Jazz Orchestra.

February 2nd, 2001.

The L.D. Bell Jazz Band performed an A/B assembly on Friday, February 2nd at 10:30 am.


City of Hurst Declares L. D. Bell Band Day
November 28, 2000.
The L. D. Bell Band was honored by the City of Hurst during their regular City Council meeting. The date, November 28, 2000 was declared L. D. Bell Band day by proclamation of the Council. Accepting the award on behalf of the band were Joe Grzybowski, John Pollard, Jeremy Earnhart, and Cathy Grzybowski.
The award was presented in recognition of the band's "Triple Crown" awards winning the Bands of America Regional Contest in San Antonio; Bands of America Contest in Houston; and the State UIL Marching competition.
Bell Wins Top UIL State Marching Band
In Waco Competition
L. D. Bell took the number one spot in the statewide UIL competion held on November 6th at Baylor University's Floyd Casey Stadium. The Blue Raiders Final performance was rated 1st in close competition with Duncanville.

Bell Wins Percussive Arts Society
Standstill Division

The L.D. Bell High School Drumline took first place in the High School Standstill Division of the Percussive Arts Society's national competition with a score of 94.75. They also won awards for best snares and best pit in their division. This competition was held in Dallas on November 17th.
Congratulations to The University of North Texas, who won the college division and to Marcus High School who won the High School Marching division - and to all the other great lines who competed.

The Blue Raider Band came from behind in the Houston Bands Of America competition to take First Place overall and win all three caption events. WAY TO GO BELL!

L. D. Bell Wins
UIL Area B Marching Contest
Saturday, October 28, 2000

The L. D. Bell Band advanced to the State Competition by placing in the top three bands in the UIL Area B Marching Contest. The UIL Competition was held on Saturday, October 28th at Pennington Field.

Bell was ranked 1st by four judges and 2nd by one judge to win their place in the State Competition. Also advancing were Haltom High School and The Colony. Congratulations to the Blue Raider Band!

March-A-Thon

The March-A-Thon is one of the key fund raising event for the band. This year's March-A-Thon was on Saturday, September 16th. Visit the Album for pictures of this event.

L.D. BELL BAND WINS BANDS OF AMERICA
in San Antonio

On Saturday, October 7, the L.D. Bell High School band attended the 2000 Bands Of America Southwest Regional at the San Antonio Alamodome. The Blue Raider band placed first in both prelims and finals, swept all finals captions and posted the highest BOA regional score to date this season with a 6-point spread over second place. WAY TO GO BELL!

Birdville Marching Festival

On Saturday, October 14, the L.D. Bell High School band competed in the BISD Marching Festival. Congratulations for winning Second Place in the Finals and Best Percussion and General Effects in the Captions. Go Bell Go! Check the Album for pictures from the Birdville Marching Festival..

Bell gets Division 1 rating at UIL

On Tuesday, October 17, the L.D. Bell High School band received a Division 1 rating in the UIL competition held at Pennington Field in Bedford, Texas. Way to Go Bell!

Barbque Dinner and Silent Auction
October 21st

L.D. Bell Blue Raider Band held their Barbeque Dinner and Silent Auction on Saturday October 21, 2000. The food was excellent! Thanks to all who helped put on this event.

Music during the dinner and silent auction was provided by Bedford Jr. High Band, Central Jr. High Band, Hurst Jr. High Band, and the award winning L.D. Bell Band. Those attending this event were able to bid on Hotel stays, dinners, arts and crafts, services (oil changes, haircuts, salon visits, dentist services, etc.) autographed sports items, and many, many more items.

L. D. Bell Band Wins
Houston Bands Of America
November 4, 2000

On Saturday, November 4th, the L.D. Bell High School band won the Finals competition in the 2000 Bands Of America Regional Championship at Houston. The competition was held at Alief High School Stadium in Alief, Texas.

The band took first place for Outstanding Visual Performance in Preliminary competion.

In the Finals, the Blue Raiders came from behind to win the championship with a score of 92.70. Bell swept all finals captions, winning awards for:

  • Outstanding Music Performance
  • Outstanding Visual Performance
  • Outstanding General Effect

L.D. BELL BAND WINS BANDS OF AMERICA
SOUTHWEST REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

On Saturday, October 7, the L.D. Bell High School band attended the 2000 Bands Of America Southwest Regional at the San Antonio Alamodome. The Blue Raider band placed first in both prelims and finals, swept all finals captions and posted the highest BOA regional score to date this season with a 6-point spread over second place.

In preliminary competition the band was awarded first among 25 bands in class AAA (the largest classification) and 32 bands overall, including past champions Westfield High School and Winston Churchill High School. L.D. Bell also won the preliminary caption awards for highest achievement in Visual and General Effect.

In the finals L.D. Bell scored an 89.65; over 6 points above defending champion Winston Churchill. The Blue Raiders also swept all finals awards for highest achievement in Music, Visual and General Effect. Each Blue Raider band member received a championship medal for this nationally recognized achievement.

89.65 is the highest score posted in four BOA regional championships this year. The next highest score is an 83.65, posted by King Philip HS, MA at the New York Bands Of America Regional. The Bands Of America website is www.bands.org.

On Saturday October 14 the Blue Raider Band will perform at the Birdville ISD Marching Contest. Their preliminary performance will take place at 5:00 PM at the Birdville ISD Fine Arts/Athletic complex. Their UIL regional performance occurs at 6:00 PM, Tuesday, October 17 at Pennington Field in Bedford. On October 21 the Bell Area bands host their annual barbeque dinner and concert beginning at 5:00 PM at L.D. Bell High School.
